Eric Stotik's small acrylic
paintings are intriguing examples of modern surrealism. The small
works, which are done either on panel or on paper adhered to panel, are
haunting dreamscapes that instead of relying on shock value, create a
subtle, eerie mood. Scarred, yet serene faces stare out of the
paintings, not horrifying the viewer, but causing him to feel uneasy.
Stotik's talent with detail and layering is apparent in paintings where
crowded, linear compositions or cryptic text slowly emerge from beneath
layers of glazing. Stotik's work is so effective because of the
subtlety and nuance he is able to create through his precise technical
skill.
