Ian Weaver is a 36 year old, Chicago-born, visual artist currently residing in St. Louis, MO, pursuing his MFA in Visual Art from Washington University. This solo exhibition of mostly paintings at Packer Schopf Gallery will be his first in Chicago. These paintings are done in a trompe l'oeil style and are deceptively realistic. They are also very dry. Why would anyone want to "paint" accurate renditions of birth certificates and divorce decrees?... Weaver wants to create paintings that faithfully, and in a deliberate manner, record the factual information from his family's past. The documents are so disparate in content that they immediately caused Weaver to conceive of the series in a collage-like format: these distinct images coming together to create a whole history. Weaver envisions this series incorporating "fake" documents as well; that is, documents that never existed, except within his imagination. With this new direction, Weaver feels he will be empowered to re-imagine his lost history, rather than simply record it.

Weaver has exhibited throughout the Chicago area in many of the city's alternative exhibition spaces, including The Riverside Arts Center, UIC, the Hyde Park Art Center, and Anchor Graphics. His work is in several private collections.
