Roth's conversation regarding his art is one of balance found between the
opposing elements of formal aesthetics of high modernism. The layered
meaning in these forms are not labored to be art-drunk-didactic-drivel but
rather hard worked, leaning towards an expression that tries to say little
to nothing. Roth explores the elements of the material itself and by being a
good listener, he allows room for the process and language of the wood grain
to infuse life to the work. The construction of these beautifully crafted
wall reliefs and their clean lines leave no room to miss the point of his
subtlety.
