What started as an unconventional diary, is now exactly what the title of this show suggests, a full-on invasion. The artist's own personal archives alone contain over 25,000 postcards. Mothersbaugh, a member of the quirky 80's band DEVO, started creating equally quirky postcards in his downtime as something to share with friends. Mothersbaugh now wants to share these postcards with a worldwide audience. Humorous and telling, Mothersbaugh's cards are both a personal diary and a cultural commentary. The prints in the exhibition are scanned from original postcard sketches, and then embellished and distorted with text, photographs, and other additions, such as plastic googly eyes. Layered both in images and concept, the cards are eye catching and thought provoking. Mothersbaugh's art is not only, as he puts it "about getting affordable artwork into the hands and homes of first time art buyers," but also about sharing an intriguing look at our cultural environment by way of Mothersbaugh's own visual culture.
