A lover of classic films, Anderson uses their ominous
subject matter and haunting imagery as fodder for his art. This new body of
work focuses on the actresses of these films who have "portrayed the possessed
and the obsessed, the vulnerable, the sinister, and the tragic" Anderson
writes.
Paradoxically these works are not especially dark or foreboding. His
paintings are often brightly colored and direct, with vivid backdrops behind
the prominent figures. Bearing unmistakable ties to Midwestern folk art they
are remarkably strong in their fantastic simplicity.
